Group exhibition Master Photographers

FIAP Polska [1]

“FIAP”(Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique) is an international umbrella organisation for photographic art that brings together renowned organisations and their members from over 85 countries. “Excellence FIAP” (EFIAP) is an artistic title for outstanding photographers awarded by this association. Over the last 70 years, there have been only a few dozen Polish artists who received this designation. Currently, fewer than 30 artists in Poland hold this title.

EFIAP @ VR IN FRAMES
Details …

The idea for a joint exhibition originated about three years ago. Tomasz Sobczak became the project curator and invited like-minded people with the aforementioned EFIAP title to collaborate. Together they present about 50 photographs in a limited edition, which may be considered the best selection from 250 exhibits. Realised in different photographic techniques, they are aimed at the demands of collectors.

Participants in the exhibition are: Marcin Bawiec, Jan Brdej, Cezary Dubiel, Rafał Kaźmierczak, Cezary Kowalczuk, Adam Ksieniewicz, Dorota Kycia, Krzysztof Muskalski, Robert Pranagal, Alicja Przybyszowska, Zdzisław Rynkiewicz, Tomasz Sobczak, Krzysztof Stós, Piotr Sygnarowicz, Zygmunt Trylański, Janusz Wojcieszak, Grzegorz Wójcik, Krzysztof Zając (in alphabetical order).

Quiescent current

CHRISTIANE KITTNER

Contemporary art that “rests in itself” ? Christiane Kittner’s works are intended to convey precisely this calm and balance to the viewer. The artist applies various techniques of oil and acrylic painting, but also uses methods that are very often found in the field of “street art”.

Christiane Kittner @ VR IN FRAMES
Details …

Born in Zittau (1988) and grew up in the Zittau Mountains. Already at an early age she discovered painting and drawing as her passion. Besides paint and canvas, Christiane Kittner also restores furniture, designs greeting cards and much more.

Freedom and Progress

ASTRID HERZSPRUNG

In “progress”, “freedom” can appear either tamed or unleashed. Yet “retrospection” is a medium of reflection on these possibilities. Too complicated ?! Astrid Herzsprung finds (at least) photographic answers to this dialectic without losing her “grip”. City, country, lake – in various places “home” becomes a plaything of changes, both spatial and ideational.

Astrid Herzsprung @ VR IN FRAMES
Details …

Born in 1965, Astrid has been working on topics of creative photography, people and the environment for over 10 years. The focus of her work is on narrative image stories and stagings in the course of time.

Motherland Europe

SABINE EULER

Typically Germany, typically Europe or typically life ? In her cartoons, Sabine Euler from Görlitz captures everyday observations – and invites you to cheerful self-examination: “As different as we are, we find common ground in small weaknesses. Where we inevitably resemble each other, where we can hardly help but laugh at ourselves together, that’s where we feel our roots. And find true home: so much of it that it is enough for everyone.”

Sabine Euler @ VR IN FRAMES
Details …

Sabine Euler, born in 1973 (Lauterbach/Maar), worked at various theatres after her acting training, but it was in performing the role of a mother that she made her surprise breakthrough: with spectacular performances at parents’ evenings and playgrounds, in supermarkets and swimming pools, in the family circle and among complete strangers, she inadvertently won the hearts of unwilling spectators. Since 2020, she has been publishing her secret recordings here and there, on social networks and on her internet site. She lives with her husband and three children in Görlitz.

Previous exhibitions: “Motherland” at the Görlitz Municipal Hospital, spring 2021; “Motherland virtual” in cooperation with Förderverein Kulturstadt Görlitz-Zgorzelec e.V. (FVKS) as part of the campaign “So geht sächsisch” – the Free State of Saxony, summer 2021; “Diapers, Madness, Femininity” – virtual 3D exhibition in cooperation with the FVKS, spring 2022.

Publications to date: Book illustration for Alu Kitzerow, “Dein Po ist so weich wie ein Kissen” (Your bottom is as soft as a pillow), January 2021; cartoon series “Reisen, Rotwein, Raserei!” (Travelling, red wine, frenzy!) for the guest rooms of “Sonnenhotel am Markt” in Zittau, autumn 2021; exhibition at FuhrHof Lauterbach/Maar, spring 2022.

ALANIS-ANN KRICK

“Home Europe” – just an empty term ? Home is where worlds blur. Between mountains and sea. Where we become one with ourselves and discover ourselves anew. “Home Europe cannot be defined and that is the beauty of it” – Alanis-Ann Krick (nevertheless) gets to the bottom of this phenomenon. And surprises with “farsightedness”. And surprises with “farsightedness”.

Alanis-Ann Krick @ VR IN FRAMES
Details …

Having grown up by the sea, she felt drawn to the mountains after graduating from high school. There she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in organisation studies. What Alanis loves about Europe is its diversity and the compatibility of apparent opposites.

“For me, home in Europe means the blurring of worlds, stories and dreams. But home is not just there. It’s an opportunity and everyone has to decide for themselves how to use it.”

Photo meets Manga

EVA-MARIA HORSTICK

Two worlds collide with a quiet bang. Contours and boundaries are to be erased. The series “Photo meets Manga” is a series of photographs taken in Europe, in combination with mangas, which are intended to make the world a little more colourful and peaceful. Likewise, the artist wants to promote borderless “thinking without railings”.

Eva-Maria Horstick @ VR IN FRAMES
Details …

Eva-Maria Horstick works as an international photo artist with exhibitions in NYC, Tokyo, Brussels and also in Germany. Her artworks are represented in public collections such as the German Bundestag, Museum MKK Dortmund (DE) and the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne (DE). The subjects are diverse – like life itself. Likewise, the artist wants to promote borderless “thinking without railings”.

The last miners

SÖNKE C. WEISS

In December 2018, the last coal mine in the Ruhr region, Prosper Haniel, closed. For the men portrayed by Sönke Weiss, a piece of home came to an end. It was the last shift. Their home was the miners, the work they did underground, cohesion and tradition. Everything is history.

Sönke C. Weiss @ VR IN FRAMES
Details …

In 1967, he was born into a family of barbers and bar people at Schleswig-Holstein region (DE) – and broke with traditions.

As a scholarship holder in the USA, he studied German literature (Bachelor of Arts) and communication sciences (Bachelor of Arts) at Indiana University. This was followed by studies in directing and dramaturgy with Edward Albee (who’s afraid of Virginia Woolf?) at the University of Houston (Master of Fine Arts), where he also worked as a teaching assistant. Numerous years as a photographer, editor and war reporter followed. He was practically trained by Professor Jochen Blume at Hamburg.

the blue of heaven…

SASCHA RÖHRICHT

The series of works “das blaue vom himmel…” (the blue of heaven…) by the Görlitz artist Sascha Röhricht uses photography, poetry, oil painting, collages and an object to open up a view of a European homeland that has been hit “deep in blue”. And which brings its old and new scars to mind. In his works, the artist carefully focuses on finding a rooted language and discovering connecting motifs, always in search of a “poetic blue” that pours out of the homeless sky. And even wanders into the depths of the European seas.

In snapshots, in between

ALEKSANDRA DOBROWOLSKA

“My personal home does not take up much space. It is a small part of my inner library, next to book sections, song lyrics, memories and unfulfilled dreams. With each further wandering between people, cities and houses, I left, lost or gave away more and more things. Everything that makes up my identity is reflected in the snapshots of memory. In between, I am at home”. That is what this story is about.

Aleksandra Dobrowolska @ VR IN FRAMES

Four Chimneys – group exhibition

ZPAF JELENIA GÓRA

The invited artists deal with the phenomenon of a special place in the recent history of the region around Jelenia Góra (Hirschberg): the disused chemical plant “Chemitex-Celwiskoza” forms an extensive post-industrial landscape in the middle of the city. The photographers participated in the citizens’ dialogue on site and explored the social perception of Celwiskoza. Facing the progressive and inevitable decay of the building fabric, it was also their intention to create a documentation that preserves the memory of this place – … of HOME, as a place that is important to so many … .
